Are the Russians Having Buyers Remorse?

I know the ‘Russia is Losing’ narrative is just propaganda and lies from Ukraine and their masters in the USA, but I think Russia was tricked into invading and may now have regrets. Some things just don’t make any sense.

The USA and all of NATO confirmed that if Ukraine attacked the Donbass then they would not support Ukraine if and when they were attacked by the Russians. In fact they went further and simply stated they would not support Ukraine no matter what.

Russia made it clear they would not attack as long as Ukraine did not attack the Donbass.

Then Ukraine prepared an attack on Donbass. Are they really that stupid? Or was someone secretly encouraging them, perhaps with promises of support contrary to their public stand?

Russia had every reason to believe that the dispute between Russia and Ukraine would not result in Western interference, or an expansion of the conflict outside of Ukraine. Then Ukraine began its attack upon the Donbass, Russia counter-attacked (at least that is my take on it and I believe there are sufficient facts to support this), and then all hell broke loose. That would suggest that the USA and NATO used Ukraine as bait to get Russia to attack so that they could then move upon Russia economically and perhaps even militarily… which they have done at least economically.
