I started out quite intrigued by this article, but was then very disappointed by the following statement:

"...the fact that we aren’t God’s handiwork, but rather the result of billions of years of evolution, unfolding by a combination of chance and natural selection."

How do you know that? This is not a scientific fact. It is at best a hypothesis, but when accepted blindly is nothing more than a statement of faith. Which is fine, but all the same it has nothing to do with science, and cannot be proven or disproven.

What if we actually are 'God's handiwork'? There are so many possibilities where this is the case as to defy 'imagination'.

What if 'God' created us here on this planet. Would it be possible for a being or entity capable of such a feat to also be able to confound and conceal the origins of this creation? Of course. Is this likely? Probably not, but you cannot prove or disprove it.

What if we are living inside a 'Matrix' type simulation? In that case our 'God' would be even more all powerful and all encompassing being the creator, manager, manipulator, designer, etc. of a software program of which we simply form a part.

What if 'God' actually created the entire universe, not just us. If such a being existed, it/he/she would exist outside of time and space, or perhaps so embedded inside time and space as to make it irrelevant. Could we turn out to be a the 'handiwork' of such a being? Of course. But again it cannot be proven or disproven.

Each of these conjectures are just a hypothesis. Are they likely, plausible, supported by evidence? Sort of... not really, but not enough either way to be confirmed or disproved by science.

Just like your statement. It is a hypothesis. Perhaps better supported by evidence, as well as being supported by the emotional conviction of a lot people pretending to respect science who cannot seem to stick with the rigors of scientific analysis, but all the same unproven.
