Tinder #Menprovement Initiative — Genius or Stupid?

Sorry to say that I am a little behind on this issue, but I found it both interesting and amusing enough to put forward my humble opinion. Last year Tinder began the #Menprovement Initiative to deal with a problem on its system. The initiative was aimed at addressing ‘douchebags’ who were supposedly ruining the Tinder experience for women. Tinder received a lot of criticism for this initiative but I think it was genius.

There is indeed a real problem for women on Tinder, but it is not caused by ‘douchebags’. It is caused by the highly selective (perhaps even unreasonable?) expectations that women have about men, and the behavior women then pursue.

Women on Tinder reject between 80% to 85% of the men based solely upon the picture in the man’s profile. As a result there are roughly 5 women to every 1 man available to them. Whether or not all those men are douchebags is hard to say, but there is definitely a problem. Guys have picked up on this pretty fast; if you are among the 1 in 5 attractive male-model types who women choose you can pretty much do anything you like and still score. Women on the other hand — not so much. In fact a few of my male friends who seem to be in that top 20% category complain about how the women on Tinder are ‘totally fake’ since their pictures tend to be inaccurate and the women ‘want to spend all the…
